Monty Meets Malcolm

David Baddiel's ANiMALCOLM at The Montgomery on 1st July

'Monty Meets' is me, Monty Mouse, bringing you interviews with the biggest names in showbiz, all from the comfort of my green sofa in The Monty Green Room. Our summer show, David Baddiel's ANiMALCOLM is going to be an absolute scorcher, and I am very excited to be joined by the star of the show today, 10 year old Malcolm!

MONTY:        Great to catch up with you on your busy tour of the UK. Must be hectic with all those animals on the tour bus with you. And stinky! Which animal would you say has the worst smell?

MALCOLM:        My dog’s farts are pretty bad... his name is Stan.

MONTY:        Delightful. I believe you celebrate a birthday during the show? I love birthdays! What will be your wish when you blow out your candle?

MALCOLM:        More wishes?

MONTY:        Good one! Do you believe in magic?

MALCOLM:        I believe there is magic all around us. It’s pretty magical that we’re all here and made of stardust. Also, it’s pretty magical that I’m talking to a mouse.

MONTY:        Well yes, I am pretty magical myself. In my youth I was turned into a horse and led Cinderella’s coach to the ball. Marvellous! Wasn’t keen on the hay Fairy Godmother kept trying to feed me though. Revolting. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

MALCOLM:        I may have accidentally swallowed some bird poo before... but apparently it’s good luck.

MONTY:        I think someone was pulling your leg there, Malcolm. Now, I’ve got a few questions from our readers here for you. Abigail in Bents Green has written in to ask what would you like to be when you grow up?

MALCOLM:        I’m trying my best not to grow up...

MONTY:        Very smart. Rowan in Stocksbridge would like to know if there are any scary bits in the show?

MALCOLM:        Staring into K Pax’s eyes can be pretty scary. He’s quite a creepy goat and sometimes he doesn't even blink. I’m determined to out-stare him though.

MONTY:        Oh, I’m sure Rowan and the rest of our audience will be able to help you out with that one. I believe there are lots of comedy songs in the show. Which is your favourite to sing?

MALCOLM:        This is a hard one. The music is wonderful and a pleasure to sing but I think ‘Being Animalcolm’ clinches it, as it’s a turning point for Malcolm and has some awesome 80s synthesiser undertones.

MONTY:     Got to love a bit of 80s synthesiser. Did I tell you about the time I was in a music video with The Pet Shop Boys… ahem, anyway, Joanie in Hillsborough wants to know if there any bits in the show that the audience can join in with?

MALCOLM:        There are plenty of animal noises to join in with!

MONTY:        And before you have to jump back on the tour bus, can you tell us what’s the best school trip you’ve ever been on?

MALCOLM:        I went on a trip to Germany for one night. I was sick both ways on the ferry. Ate loads of sweets, stayed up all night and learned nothing.
